Hello Don
I also hate to see you go, but I understand what you mean. Life is definateley too short to get involved in some of the BS that is currently in the hobby. It has really changed from when I started back in the early 80's. At almost 53, I just enjoy the collection I have and the friends I have met through the hobby. My center piece is my HR. Even though I have not personally met some of them, like Gaspare and you, I consider them friends and straight shooters. With that, I say good luck and enjoy life to the fullest! Ron Holt
Don,,
I'm a relatively new collector and have heard many things (all good!)
about you,,I hope I can meet you someday,,but thanks for tall the info
and leaving the door open for questions,,!
thanks for all youve done
Tim
To all who have posted I Thank You from the bottom of my heart and my home , my knowledge , and my help is always open to you and the many other friends and family around the world at any time as I have a deep seated passion to always help others if I can or point them in the right direction were they may get the help or answers they need. (Jo) thanks for your post with the moving Hitler it is the first time in months I actualy laughed out loud and enjoyed myself thanks for the good feeling you gave me my friend. Robin your post makes me aware that I am not alone in what has happened to me in this hobby the only thing is I wish it did not happen to you as you have been a friend for many years and deserve better as you have helped so many over the years. Jim M. it is funny how over the years you real do not know your friends such as the one I mentioned that I sold the SS Dog Tag to until money or pride gets in there way but I can tell you it is thier lose and not yours as you have everything to gain and nothing to lose by telling the truth and sicking to what you believe in. Chuck, Anti, Wim, Erich , Ron , Tim and all my other friends do not let greed or power ever get in your way of what you are doing as it will only bring you down stick to the passion of collecting and the helping of new as well as older collectors. It does'nt matter if your collection is one piece or 100 pieces or if the value is $50 or $50,000 it is all relevant. We are on this earth for a short time and are the keepers of History. When we pass on someone else will cherish what we have researched and preserved. We only rent space on this earth we do not own it as it belongs to everyone and no one so make every minuet count . On that note I just recieved an e-mail today from the nephew of a man named ( Jack Hawkins ) who was a World War-2 American Veteran. He e-mailed me to say his uncle past away of a heart attack. Another World War-2 American Veteran and hero has now died. I meet him after an article was written in the newspaper on the Hotel Guest Book from the Hotel Wittelsbach in Oberammergau which I own was published. He was one of the many Americans who helped the towns people and injured soilders from all sides at the end of the war. He was a good man and had a very interesting story to tell which I will publish along with the Hotel Book in the future. It was a pleasure to know him and him along with all the other veterans from all the countries around the world I take my hat off and salute you all. Like I said life is to short and this is just another reminder to me . Thanks again for your support and feel free to contact me anytime . Your Friend Don Boyle
Don ..I've been staying out of the loop for a while now so, I don't know what happened. But knowing how our "Hobby" has evolved/changed over the last 10 years ..I'm not surprised. There are a lot of Jealous small people out there ...but I'm glad to see you're not letting them ruin the Hobby for you.
They are not serious about this Hobby and eventually they get bored and sell everything off.
A well deserved break is one thing but ..Collecting and studying History's artifacts is a lifelong quest for people like us , so I know you'll always be close by.
I wish you all the best for what appears to be a strongly desired break.
If it will be the occasion to work on a new edition of your book, I will be more than happy as a lot of people will.
Happy 58th, if I slow down a bit you may still catch up to me ... lol. Don I like you began collecting at an early age - 1944 at nine - with wartime postal issues, moved into militaria and then began writing many years later in 1997. I will be 75 years young in April and although I left the mainstream of militaria collecting about two decades ago I do not regret it as it seems that we move on to bigger and better things despite what the nay sayers say about us. Believing in what you do is all that matters, being truthful and forthright in your dealings will always prevail. Don, keep writing, stay healthy and keep in touch with me as I will you. If I can be of help in any way please do not hesitate to ask.
Best of wishes ... Your friend,
Richard
